Gynaecological Ultrasound Examination

Women’s troubles? We can help with an gynaecological ultrasound

We , Ultrasound center in Harley Street perform gynae ultrasounds to diagnose any gynaecological problems that are causing you pain, discomfort, or concern. The ultrasound scans the female pelvis so we can take a look at the size and appearance of the ovaries and womb (uterus), and discover any abnormalities. It’s used to investigate and diagnose a number of gynaecological conditions, such as:

  • Irregular bleeding
  • Pelvic pain
  • Infertility
  • Recurrent miscarriage
  • Abnormal findings (cysts, fibroids, or other growths) found during a physical exam
  • Checking the position of an IUD contraceptive device

Our scans are transvaginal, which means through the vagina. Transvaginal scans provide clearer images than traditional scanning allows. It’s a quick and safe procedure that provides instant and accurate results.

What problems might a gynaecological ultrasound reveal?

  • Polycystic ovaries (PCOS)
  • Cancers of the uterus, ovaries, and cervix
  • Endometriosis or adenomyosis (benign conditions)
  • Growths around the uterus and ovaries (such as fibroids or cysts)

What does the scan involve?

You will lie on a table with your knees bent, or possibly with your feet held in stirrups. Your experienced private gynaecologist will then pass a probe into the vagina. The probe sends out sound waves to the computer which creates an image of the pelvic organs. Your gynaecologist will then study these images for any abnormalities.

How should I prepare for the ultrasound?

Transvaginal ultrasounds are done with an empty or partially filled bladder. In some cases, a full bladder will be necessary, but your gynecologist will discuss this with you beforehand.

Does it hurt?

A gynaecological ultrasound is usually painless. You may feel slight discomfort caused the probe, but only a small part of the probe is inserted into the vagina.

What happens after the scan?

Your private gynaecologist in London will discuss your results with you as well as your next steps if treatment is required.
